Hi there,
I'm having problems with the Covert Ops installation on Win XP. I have followed the tutorials about installing C&C gold + Covert Ops here http://www.cncworld.org/?page=features/tutorials/coxpguide , but it still doesn't work. (C&C gold runs smoothly, no problems at all)
I have inserted the Covert Ops CD, copied the SC.MIX files, but when I run the game nothing happens, just black sreen. When I remove the Covert Ops CD from the cd-rom drive, C&C finally starts, but it won't allow me to play the new missions- because it needs the Covert Ops CD. If I insert the CD again, black screen appears again....
Please help me anybody, I am really desperate.

P.S. Another question, the funpark mission are part of the Covert Ops or are just in relugar C&C?

Hi lemi, welcome to C&C Forums :)

What happens when you try without the Covert Ops CD? There should just be an option called "New Missions" on the main menu.

The Funpark dino missions are part of covert ops.

Thanks for reply,
there is that option. But when I choose whatever mission, it asks me to insert the Covert Ops CD. I have no idea what to do with it...any suggestions?

Hmmm. try adding:
-cd.
(that's space dash cee dee dot) to the shortcut target. That might overwride the insert cd message.

Tried that, no luck, it says: Error - out of memory.
Any more suggestions? :)

Weird, I'm out of ideas then I'm afraid. My tutorial was based on the EA Knowledgebase, so it should work.

'-cd.'? Good god no... on a normal CD setup that only makes sure your C&C doesn't find half of its files, since it uses the C&C game folder (the dot '.' means 'current directory') instead of the CD. No wonder it gives an error; pretty much all C&C ingame graphics are on the CD. -_-

If you want to do it right, you have to make it point to the drive that has your CD, like, for example, for E:
C&C95.exe -cdE:\
This will allow you to play the Covert Ops with any C&C CD.

However, only use this for the Covert Ops, since this can give Unable to read Scenario errors if you're playing the campaign with a wrong CD. From the moment you use '-cd', the game assumes you're playing from hard disk, so it will never ask you to change the CD.

As for your problem... I've never seen anything like that before, except when I tried to run C&C95 with my DOS C&C GDI and Nod disks.

See if it works with the -cdCDDRIVE:\ trick, with your covert ops disk. If it doesn't, I think you might simply have a damaged CD...
