This is an idea that I had a little while ago and I am wondering if it would be worth it

I thought of opening my own hosting site, where you can get hosting for your site, files, w/e for cheap prices but am not sure if anyone would actually buy it.

*All come with unlimited bandwidth, control panel to your section, prices are final - never to change*

Options A:
_5GB - $5.00/month
10GB - $7.50/month
25GB - $12.50/month

Options B:
_50GB - $20.00/month
_75GB - $30.00/month
100GB - $40.00/month

Options C:
150GB - $57.50/month
200GB - $70.00/month
250GB - $82.50/month

As I work for a hosting company myself I feel that I am in a good position to give you some constructive advice.

I'd watch out advertising unlimited bandwidth; web-savy people such as myself would instantly cross you off our lists as you are basically lying. Others who have found a guide to hosting will also cross you off their lists as they always say "avoid unlimited bandwidth".

I'd be interested to know what kind of hard drive do you have on your server? It's gonna have to be pretty massive if you're offering 250Gb accounts! I can't say I've ever heard or a website using more than a few gigs, the largest request we've had is 20Gb.

With regards to running the hosting, the hardest part is support - even people on cheap hosting want prompt replies.
If you are planning on taking this big it would definately be worth investing in some billing software now like WHM Autopilot so you don't have to manually set up every account and payment yourself. This I have learnt as the hosting company I work for started with manual systems back in 2001 and we are still having to chase people up every month as they are not on our advanced automated billing system.

There are hundreds of hosting services starting and ending almost daily so competition is high - our main selling factor is that we have been established for along time. You're gonna need a good 'hook' to catch new customers besides cheapness.

That sounds alright. If anyone, however, came into this thread looking for cheap hosting, I'll give you a $20 gift certificate for a very good host, the same one that hosts D2K Studios (http://www.d2kstudios.com). :)
I only have 5 however.
