hey man, i think I solved the problem.
Did you paste the entire XP_Patch folder into your Red Alert directory?
You have to copy and paste the content of the XP_Patch into the actual Red Alert folder. It solved the problem for me.

RA1, right?
-Patch the game, either to v1.08 (http://www.cncforums.com/new/local_links.php?catid=59&linkid=286) or v3.03 (http://www.cncforums.com/new/local_links.php?catid=59&linkid=287)
-Add the network fix for the patch you installed: v1.08 network fix (http://www.cncforums.com/new/local_links.php?catid=59&linkid=486) or v3.03 network fix (http://www.cncforums.com/new/local_links.php?catid=59&linkid=487)
-Run ra95.exe in Win95 compatibility mode

I don't know exactly how they arranged that, but unless the patch in the patch directory is called "patch.exe" it's probably the self-extracting zip containing the patch, and not the actual patch itself. Meaning you have to look for "patch.exe" in the folder after running that one.
