Hello guys!

I'd like to know if it's possible to run C&C tiberian dawn and/or red alert 1 (+ expansions) in windowed mode.
I want to hide the game from my boss when he's passing by my desk, hehehe!
Just kidding... I tested a program called ''d3dwindower", a japanese program barely translated to english. I used this program to play "XCOM Ufo Defense"(the windows version) and it worked well. But it didn't work for the C&C games. I've downloaded the versions you provided at your website.
I've seen in the internet the "-win" method in C&C Generals. Is there something similar in TD/ RA1?
Thanks a lot for the info!

problem is, C&C1 and RA1 work in 256-colour DirectX full screen mode. They depend on changing the complete graphics system's colour palette to show their graphics correctly, so it's incompatibile with windowed mode.

By the way, this REALLY isn't the place to ask questions. We got the Classics forum for that.

Like Nyer said, only thing stopping it is the fact that RA and TD both need the colour pallete changed by force, and doing so while not in full screen makes windows go crazy, very crazy...

Making it appear in a window is easy, only a few lines of code to do so, but it seems it dont work on all systems i tested it with...

Can't you re code all of the stuff so it can be used in regular colour instead of the inverted (or w/e they are) one? It bugs me a lot because sometime they don't switch over :S

Think about that for a moment ;)

the bad colours bug is kinda completely unrelated to that... it's Windows forcing its own 16-colour palette into the game's own 256-colour palette, screwing up the first and last 8 colours of the game palette.

you can run Red Alert one in a window with out problems, you just need DOSBox :D

But then you're
1. playing on an emulator
2. playing the 320x200 DOS version

For RA, you're missing out on the 3.03 version then. For C&C95, you're missing out on v1.06.
