View Full Version : Firewall issue

I can't go online with my generals zero hours for some odd reason.
It just says it's unable to connect to the server and that I should check my internet connect.
The internet connection is fine, and this didn't happen a months ago (I went on vacation).
I patched it to 1.04 a year ago (and I just did it again).

I'm running avast4 as my anti virus, but it doesn't have a firewall. I use windows's firewall and I allowed generals and zero hour through it, but it's still not helping.
When I got this laptop I had Norton on it with the firewall on. It worked fine also...

The game works fine, so is my broadband connection (10 mb/s).
I am running Vista (shouldn't be an issue tho).
I have Rise of the Reds installed on it but it used to work fine with ROTR installed a months ago.
I have not changed any of it's settings (besides the mod) since the installation.

IT IS THE REAL DEAL, NOT SOMETHING FROM THE INTERNET OR CHINA, IT CAME WITH A CD KEY, THERE'S 2 CD'S, AND I GOT IT AT TARGET IN AMERICA. GENERALS IS ALSO REAL, WITH THE SAME STUFF THAT CAME WITH ZERO HOUR, IT JUST DIDN'T HAVE A SEPERATE INSTALLATION GUIDE. I GOT IT AT THE SAME STORE TOO.

Anyone have any idea what the issue is?

Thanks in advance.

Check your router is set up correctly: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6458

Yeah, I have no idea what I'm suppose to do from that. Not sure what a port number thing is. The link they have on there for configurating the router is broken too. Ty though, just need a simpler answer.

OK, here's idiot-proof: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Choose your router, then choose Generals. It'll guide you through with pictures.

Yay for pictures, they're 10000 times more effective than your language.

O.o, nice they don't even have my router (dlink DCM-202)...

In fact I've been there before :P

That's not a router, it's a modem. If that's plugged straight into your computer then you don't have a router and port forwarding can't be the problem.

Odd, because I have a internet phone connected to that and it worked fine before. I had a hub, but that's not the problem (I tested it without it). I haven't gone on to generals since then so idk if there's still a problem. It worked fine with Norton and Avast4 working at the same time (I used Norton's firewall, but window's firewall can't be the problem, I tested that too).
