Treasury box and that other thing ?

In the game (C&C Gold) you can sometimes come across boxes with money. But sometimes the box contains something else. Sort of a dark round thing. What is it and what does it do? I thought that maybe it would heal my troops but i was wrong. Please help me solve this puzzle. :D

The silver crate is just a mission objective. It doesn't do anything at all, but the mission is programmed to react if one of your units enters the cell the crate was put on.

Also, the animation only plays if you pick it up with Nod, for some reason. GDI doesn't get an animation.
