I recently had an old copy of Tiberian Sun installed on my system, but during my system-wipe/upgrade to windows 7 I noticed that this version was running badly (the old pavement build issue). I found out that Tiberian Sun was available for free as a download and thought that this would be the answer. Once I installed I opened up the game to, selected the "original" flavour and got to the main menu. Once here the sound stopped working. I poked around, found nothing obvious and decided to uninstall and go back to my old version. Upon re-installing this I found that the sound had gone on this version too. So, to recap, the splash screen (version selector) has sound then neither version has. My old copy now doesn't have sound (though it did before).

I found the except file and have the following information (well, it starts with this):

Error code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Description: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

Please help as TS is the only C&C game that I come back to time after time....but you know this ;)

Thanks.

I recommend uninstalling all versions of TibSun you have installed (having multiple copies installed simultaneously is never a good idea).

Then download and install this: http://www.cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=41

It's a super easy-to-use installer and I can confirm it works with Windows 7.

I have located that my issue was not with TS, but my onboard soundcard. Stupid Sigmatel that Dell fits to everything doesn't have an approved Win 7 driver. I finally found a decent one through another forum (IDT).
