Default Thinking of purchasing RA3, would like info.

Zdrasvetye Comrades, General Petras reporting in.

I've been watching vids and pics of Red Alert 3 for quite a while now. I've been reluctant to buy it, as I am usually very disappointed with EA's RTS games. The only reason I own Generals(ZH) is because I got it on First Decade. (It is a decent game alright, but it has none of the things that made the CNC games great and unique.)

Firstly, I want to know if this game is even remotely good fun and true to the Red Alert story, gameplay, etc. (Also, is it super encrypted or can I mod it as easily as Generals?)

More importantly, if it is worth the 20+ dollars to get it, will I be able to play it? All of the sources I've seen say that it will run on Windows XP and Windows Vista (32 bit)

I have a nice little XP computer, but it is getting rather old and is easilly overwhelmed. I use it for writing, graphics editing, game modding, etc. Just a nice little personal computer that worked very hard and deserves a quiet retirement and a peaceful death. (It runs Generals just fine, but not quite as fast as I want it to.)

My family has a much newer computer, which runs Windows Vista 64-bit. (I would have preferred something different, but we needed to buy an upgrade immediately, and it was the best around at the time.) AMD triple core 2.10, 3 gig of ram, ATI Radeon HD 3200, 64-bit OS.

This machine runs Generals, Zero Hour, and Shockwave like a dream. However, I am concerned that the (32-bit) tag on the RA3 specs might mean I will have no luck in installing, and with the "WARNING!!! VOID UPON OPENING!!! NO MONEY BACK!!! blah blah blah stuff that EA smears all over their games, I wonder if I should even bother.

The official requirements are listed at http://www.cncworld.org/?page=games/...3/requirements

Red Alert 3 definitely is fun. 64 bit isn't supported, but all reports say that it will work. You could always download the demo first to see if it works?

C&C3 and Red Alert 3 are more encrypted than Generals - this is the compromise for the super-fast loading. But there are plenty of mod tools available from http://forums.commandandconquer.com and around the community.

If you do decide to buy it, consider purchasing from Amazon via the CnCWorld Store. It's just like ordering from Amazon, but we earn a commission on the sale. Think of it as a thank you for providing the advice - at no cost to you!

Thanks a lot Dippers. I think I will wait for now, seeing as it may not work right on the 64-bit rig. (I will probably be upgrading in the future, so why rush it?)

It is great to know that I can buy direct from this site! I would gladly support you guys as much as possible. (After browsing your selection, I must say that I am going gaga over the RA3 - PlayStation 3 version's cover art...)

...on a side note, does anybody understand why they do not support 64-bit? I know that the Vista fad is kinda over, but there are so many people who own Vista64, so why is EA holding out? Generals is Pre-Vista, but it runs fine on both versions so why doesn't RA3?

Generals was released before 64 bit was invented, so there was no need to say "64 bit not supported" on the minimum requirements. All subsequent games are still based off the same engine (SAGE) so 64 bit isn't supported for that reason - it just isn't designed for it. However there's nothing to say that it won't work, and testing with the demo first will confirm it.

Okay, so SAGE was not designed for 64-bit, but it still works on 64-bit?

The demo is a great suggestion, but my communist internet provider would never allow such a large download.

However, I am glad to hear everyone's feedback of the game, and am increasingly impressed with other videos and reviews I have seen, so I will likely buy it around this April. (...and you guys definitely have reasonable prices.)
