Default RA1 Vista-32 won't install, no error message

The topics I've seen with Vista installation issues all include error messages, but I'm not having that problem. I've been following this guide:

    http://www.cncworld.org/?page=featur...s/ravistaguide

I get up to "double click on the shortcut to install the game," and I can't get any further. When I open the shortcut, I get the hourglass animation showing that it's doing something, but then it just goes back to the pointer and doesn't open anything. This happens whether I use the download from EA or the original game disks. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks.

All i can offer u is the option to try a drifferent installation file. Visit www.ra1.me and download the game. Its only 10mb but it excludes the storymode. It is only useful if u wanna play skirmish or multiplayer. I remember there were a RA+ version in the internet wich also includes the storymode. But the site where i got i from (n3trunn3ers site) is down atm.

sevenRA1: Excludes the storymode? What heresy is this???

pensfan89: I recently made a version of the RA 3.03 patch that makes installation a lot simpler. Basically there are 2 steps:

    1. Copy all files from the Install folder of one of the two original RA CDs (Allies or Soviet) to the (newly created) folder where you want to install RA1.
    2. Install the RA1 patch 3.03 from the installer on my site. Point it to the folder where you put the RA1 files.

That's all. You'll have a fully working game. It needs the CDs like normal though. If you want any of the expansions, just tick the expansion boxes in the patch 3.03 installer, and download the ISOs here

Which you can download from here N3tRunn3rs FullRA+ that is, it doesn't have the videos though...and there is no video pack...

For the true full Red Alert experience do what Nyerguds told you

You know when you have played too much C&C when you awnser everything with "affirmative" and "yes sir".

This is beautiful. So simple and great, I'm back to playing through the ant missions from Counterstrike. Everything's working without any issues. I haven't run skirmish yet, but I don't think I'll have any trouble. I have both discs for the expansion packs as well, so it all looks good. Thanks for the help!

    Glad I could help
The only real disadvantage to this is that the game isn't actually "installed" as program, so there's no automated uninstall for it that also cleans up registry information.

Oh, talking about the ant missions, my site also has a small pack that adds the ants briefing video with General Carville, taken from the playstation version of the game

The patch checks for the existence of redalert.mix, the game's main files archive. If it's not in the folder you chose, then that's not your RA folder. If you copy the files as I described, it should work.

...are you seriously trying to patch a CD-ROM?? Didn't anyone ever tell you the "ROM" part stands for "Read Only Memory"?

Really, how do you forget step #1 of a TWO-STEP GUIDE?

    It really isn't that hard
