i am having a huge problem with all my games for the first decade

i am running windows 7 64 bit ultimate and my laptop is a acer 5755G with a core I5 and a Geforce 540M

the problem is any game i start it just goes to a black screen but i can hear the sounds in the back ground, but if i tab out and back in it shows what ever screen it is on but lets say i click start game it will stay at the main menu but you can hear in the background that i clicked and it went to a different screen i have to keep tabing out to change the screen...

my drivers are up to date and i ran the game for windows xp SP2 compatibility mode... no idea how to fix this i also updated the game with the unoffical patch from this website the 1.03 one
