Since EA is too lazy to make more mechs and tanks, how about telling them this option, we create our own mechs and tanks. We design it our own. Just like in....... Earth 2160 !

but come on.... its a bit too much for them to do right now.... but hell if they can then I'd be for it
Well I think you gave the reason it shouldn't be included; it's already been done in Earth 2160!
I don't think it's a great idea because it slows down the gameplay.
If they would implement it then you should be able to save your self-build tanks/mechs/whatevers on your hard disk and load them into the game...
Providing the player with the chance to create or at least customize each and every unit in the game could prove to be an interesting feature (not very CnC, but still something worth at least discussing about), but taking EALA's attitude into consideration it would almost certainly become an obstacle too great for them to overcome...
No navy?No, it's soo hard to balance
No world domination mode?No, it's sooo hard to implement
No unique installer?No, it isnt worth wasting time for...
etc.
Meh.... I'd just like the option to make my own 'General' hell even if its just the colour and name
